2025 RIA Student Posters

In Fall 2025, about 180 high school students participated in an online interactive course created by the California State Railroad Museum and Lemelson-MIT Program. These inventors came from across the country (and around the world) to explore the future of railroading.

This year’s theme was community impact. Students explored railroading topics such as environment, infrastructure, freight, safety, passengers, and labor. They learned through presentations and conversations with experts from across the railroad industry. In addition, the invention process was introduced to students with instructor-led activities.

Over the course of the program, students collaborated in teams to conduct research and develop innovative solutions for real-world issues in the current and future rail industry. These student-designed posters showcase their solutions, problem-solving skills, and forward-thinking ideas.
