Homeschool Day is returning to the California State Railroad Museum on October 11, 2024 from 10AM to 12PM.

Homeschool Families that register by October 4 will receive FREE admission to the California State Railroad Museum on October 11 during the event.

Families will be able to enjoy a variety of educational activity stations located throughout the museum. Meet a museum curator, decode a telegraph, learn about primary sources, and much more! Our activities are designed for K-6 students, but all are welcome.

Our friends from the following organizations will also be joining us with activities:

  • Sacramento History Museum
  • Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum
  • California High-Speed Rail Authority

Homeschool Day FAQs

Families arriving at the museum should check in at the School Group Entrance along 2nd Street.

Please note that the School Group Entrance is not the same as the General Admission entrance.
Stations at Homeschool Day include: Telegraph Operator; Traveler's Letter; Railroad Math; Meet a Curator, and much more. Our activities are designed for K-6 students, but all are welcome.

Our friends at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, the California State Capitol Museum, the State Indian Museum, Sacramento History Museum, Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum, and High-Speed Rail Authority will also be joining us.
Homeschool Days is provided to families FREE of charge! Please note that families must sign up by October 4 in order to receive free admission during the event (10am-12pm only). Registration is now full.

Families who have not registered by October 4 may attend, but will be required to pay regular admission fees.

Picnic tables are located throughout Old Sacramento State Historic Park for families who want to bring their own lunches. The Old Sacramento Waterfront also offers several options for family dining. Learn more about dining options here: www.oldsacramento.com. Please note that food and drink are not allowed in the museum.
All-day paid parking is available at two parking garages located at both ends of the Old Sacramento Waterfront:

Old Sacramento Garage – Entrance at I Street between 3rd and 2nd Street. Sacramento City Parking Lot Fees apply.

Tower Bridge Garage – Entrance on Capitol Blvd. and Neasham Circle near the Tower Bridge. Sacramento City Parking Lot Fees apply.
The California State Railroad Museum is fully accessible to persons with disabilities. Wherever possible, access to exhibits are facilitated by wheelchair lifts with the assistance of our friendly staff. Certain exhibits and programs have limited accessibility due to factors such as narrow, historic stairways and door openings on railroad passenger cars.
