Big Day of Giving

Sacramento's Biggest Day in Philanthropy!

Big Day Of Giving 2017

Big Day of Giving is a 24-hour online giving challenge that brings together the region's nonprofit community to help raise much needed unrestricted funds and shine a spotlight on the work nonprofits do in Sacramento. For the past few years, this event has united the community, raising more than $16 million for local nonprofits from more than 36,000 donors from all over the region, the state, the country and the world.

Every donation makes a difference

Father Son

All Big Day of Giving donations - large or small - will support current educational programs at the California State Railroad Museum, including:

  • Field Trips: Thousands of school children are given the opportunity to visit the museum free-of-charge.
  • Emigrant Train: Offering students the opportunity to learn what it was like to journey across the United States.
  • Horses to Horsepower: A 50-minute, hands-on interpretive program about the building of the transcontinental railroad.
  • Eagle Theater: Exploring the Gold Rush in Sacramento.
  • Interpretive Handcar: A hands-on experience in the safe operation of the most basic railroad equipment.
  • School Group Train Rides: Docents explain train travel during the 1920s during a 40-minute train ride.

Plus, we need your support to go full steam ahead in developing exciting new educational programs, such as Museum Summer Camps.
