SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks is now accepting job applications for the Museum Director of the California State Railroad Museum that welcomes more than 600,000 visitors per year and is one of the premier railway museums in the world. The Museum Director position manages the California State Railroad Museum, Sacramento Southern Railroad, Old Sacramento State Historic Park and the historic Southern Pacific Shops. The broad responsibilities of this position are to plan, organize, develop, implement, and direct the programs and activities of the Museum complex, develop positive working relationships with partners and the public for community support, provide leadership, and to help lead strategic and long-range planning for the Museum. The Museum also manages large significant collections of artifacts, archives, libraries, and railroad rolling stock. The Museum Director works proactively with State Park employees, volunteers, and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation to successfully operate the Museum, the Sacramento Southern Railroad and numerous other events and programs.
Basic requirements of the position include a Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Public Administration or a field related to the study, interpretation, and preservation of cultural resources) plus a minimum of five years of broad and extensive administrative or management experience with responsibility for managing complex programs and projects. In addition, two of the five years of experience must be in a museum or cultural resource setting in a supervisory capacity.
