Railroad Museum to Showcase a Family-Favorite, Small Train Holiday

Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation have exciting plans to dazzle, delight and engage post-Thanksgiving visitors with a special Small Train Holiday on Friday, November 25, and Saturday, November 26, 2016.

For this special two-day holiday extravaganza, the Museum brings together a magical assortment of trains, hundreds of feet of track and an array of buildings and accessories. For just two days a year, local organizations and devoted individuals set up shop in the Museum, filling the Roundhouse with delightful model and toy train layouts of every description. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of the collectors.

With all the fun and festive activities happening inside the Museum, there’s plenty to do outdoors in Old Sacramento State Historic Park as well. Interested guests can visit with Santa Claus in the Eagle Theatre from 2:30 – 9:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday on Thanksgiving weekend, then Wednesdays through Sundays until December 18. While it’s free to take a moment to share holiday wishes with the jolly old elf, children can have their picture taken with Santa by a professional photographer for a fee. Also, the dazzling and free Theatre of Lights program will brighten the evening skies with a nightly symphony of lights, sounds and visual effects that start on Wednesday evening, November 23, at 6 p.m. and continue Thursdays through Sundays, plus other special days through Christmas Eve (except for Thanksgiving Day).

All Small Train Holiday activities are included with Museum admission: $10 adults; $5 youths ages 6-17; free for children ages 5 and under. For more information about the Small Train Holiday or the Railroad Museum in general, please call 916-323-9280 or visit or
