Black & African American Experience
Project dates: Sept. 2025-2027The California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) seeks to develop and install of an exhibit that highlights the Black & African American experience in the railroad industry in the United States and the West.
This project emphasizes community collaboration and aims to center community voices throughout its development.
The permanent exhibition is projected to open in 2027.

Black & African American Railroad Experience
A Work in Progress, Building the Exhibit TogetherTo encourage community engagement and feedback, we've created a temporary exhibit in our Museum Lobby Gallery. This exhibit features the research, objects, and photographs we already have of the Black and African American railroading experience, and it asks the Museum public questions.
This exhibit will inform the permanent exhibition, and will be on view through June 6, 2026.
