ABOUT GRANITE ROCK 10
This locomotive was built for the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in 1942 by H.K. Porter Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa. During World War II, the locomotive--as U.S. Army 5001-- served at the Army depot in Tracy, Calif. The Granite Rock Co. of Logan, Calif., near Watsonville, bought the locomotive as surplus in 1947. As Granite Rock 10, it worked the Logan quarry until being retired in 1960. The locomotive came to the Museum in 1995. Granite Rock Co. underwrote its restoration to operating condition; Granite Rock 10 debuted in excursion service in 1997.
